The Moon through a Telescope

Published by at 11:34 am under Photography,Tech

After years of thinking about doing it, I finally hooked my Rebel XT to my telescope, a Meade ETX 60AT.

Here is the Moon from last night:

Compare this to the best shot I could get with a Tamron 28-300 lens:

I’m pretty happy with the results so far. Really looking forward to the 2/20 eclipse!

Great shot Declan — does your telescope have a bayonet attachment, like a lens? I love that pic. — Ed

    Thanks Ed!

The telescoped did not have a built in bayonet. I read up and learned that I could but a “T” ring for my camera that has a bayonet on one side, and an inside thread on the other. The I got a “T” adapter for the telescope, screwed that into the telescope on one side, and the “T” ring for the camera on the other. The I could just click the camera on and off as if the telescope were just another lens.

I’ll try to take pix of the setup and post online this weekend.
